i have avast, and it has anti-virus and anti-spyware and im wondering if i need another piece of anti-spyware, lik adaware?

Different products detect and remove different threats. Most users and forum members have more than one anti-spyware tool; I think the average is about 3. I have three: AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, Windows Defender, and Spybot Search & Destroy.

Beside anti-spyware tools you need 1 (one) anti-virus tool, and 1 (one) firewall.

I normally have three plus Firewall and AV. The only reason that I have four at present is that as Pat says, not all Anti Malware programs find everything. It depends on the definitions. I had to download Spybot S & D as it was the only one that would get rid of some Malware that I had picked up since my new windows installation. :D
