Most users and forum members have more than one anti-spyware tool; I think the average is about 3. I have three: AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, Windows Defender, and Spybot Search & Destroy.Beside anti-spyware tools you need 1 (one) anti-virus tool, and 1 (one) firewall. The only reason that I have four at present is that as Pat says, not all Anti Malware programs find everything. It depends on the definitions.
