Pagey
A few days ago my PC has not shutdown when selecting the shutdown button after using the start button. I have tried using shutdown from the Task Manager but that does not work either. I click on the buttons and absolutly nothing happens and I have to power down by holding in the on button which I am reluctant to do.I have used system restore and gone back to before this started to happen but that did not resolve it.I have also noticed about the same time my 'Safely remove hardware' icon has gone from my system tray. On looking in properties the command is showing in past items and I have changed the line from 'hide when inactive' to 'always show' but it will still not appear.I would welcome any help or ideas. Dencandy
You may have some corrupted disk sectors, so I suggest running CheckDisk. To do this go to My Computer> right click on systems disk/partition> Properties> Tools> Error Checking, tick both boxes, then shutdown & re-start (you may have to use the power button again). Error checking will start in Safe Mode and can take up to 20/30 mins. Then do virus and malware scans, in Safe Mode, if you know how to do that.If that doesn't fix the problem then have a look at this from MS Help & Support. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
There may be permanently attached devices that can be detached, e.g. a modem card on a laptop. There are a whole lot of other external devices that can show up as detachable.
