warwicklax
Hey everyone,I hope you can help, basically I have just bought a very nice new iMac and am very happy with it blah blah blah. Basically I have now wanted to clear my old computer so that my little brother back home can use it. It had a couple of viruses and stuff on it so I wanted to clear the whole lot.Unfortunately i was extremely stupid, and downloaded and used a program which completely wiped my hard drive. I'm not talking just my word files here, EVERYTHING is gone. When I turn my computer on I have two options of F2 and F12 for setup and boot, but after it loads it goes to a blank screen.I am terrified that I have ruined my hard drive altogether. All I want is for the computer to be back to its original state when I first bought it ie nothing but the operating system. How would I go about getting this back? I am using a Dell 3000 inspiron with windows 2000.I really hope you can help! Anything would be awesome. Many thanks,James
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum.I am not quite sure what your problem is; you have completed stage 1 of your goal - wipe\format your hard drive. Next you reinstall Windows, and all should be fine? Make sure that you install all patches and service packs that are available for Windows 2000. andsome
I hope you have an installation CD. :D
Scarecrow Man
Your computer should come with a Restore CD which you can boot from to return the computer back to factory state.
warwicklax
Thanks for all your help.I have a driver installation CD, but whenever I try to boot it (pressing f12 and then pressing 4 to boot the CD drive - I have however tried all the options!) it doesn't respond... Is there anything I should change in system setup or anything to get it to work? Basically I don't know the basics of this procedure so if anyone could give me an idiots step-by-step guide that would be awesome. Thanks in advance. Scarecrow Man
In your first post you mention an Inspiron 3000. I assume you mean Dimension 3000, in which case all the information you will need can be found here:http://support.dell.com/support/topics/top...ID=DIM_CEL_3000
