Fujitsu laptop

The devil finds work for idle hands, so why has he dropped this on me?

Our neighbour appeared this morning bearing a lap top . Her sons girlfriend/fiasco had rendered the power connection 'socket', on the back of the machine, useless. In fact it had disappeared inside the box.

Could I have a look in and see if it was repairable.

I am stuck.

All the screws that I can see are out, including some that were hidden. However I am left with the top cover resisting removal only in the area above the mother board connectors, mid way along the back of the machine.(I am also a little puzzled about the display being removed.)

I have Googled for dismantling instructions but have yet found nothing of any use applicable to this model, although there is information about other Amilo models.

So is there anyone who can offer any suggestion, please.

I just found this so-called PDF easyguide to that model, catgate.......

MANUAL / EASYGUIDE

Hope you manage to find something useful in there. :D

Thanks for that,Irene. I found, (and downloaded), that this morning, and unfortunately that seems to be a user guide not a repair guide.

I really need something like "The Boys Own Book Of Making Things Worse".

I bought a Dell laptop a couple of years ago in favour of a Fujitsu Siemens after doing some google research. I found a number of references to the power socket vanishing inside the Fujitsu casing - due to the socket breaking off the motherboard which is not solderable. The only possible repair was a new motherboard. I also read that it is not possible to buy a motherboard - you have to send the laptop to a Fujitsu repairer. I cannot recall whether it was the same model - but it sounds familiar.

I realise this does not aid your dismantling efforts but might prepare you for the worst.

Is there a lid to a compartment under the tight area giving access to some other component that needs removing to expose some hidden screws?

Thanks for that,Alan,

I think your description of "the socket breaking off the motherboard" is exactly what has happened. It sounded as though the neighbour's son's girl friend was rather more than ham fisted, and had simply "made it have it". I was hoping that it might have repaired with a little soldering, plus an either epoxy or polystyrene resin adhesive, if I could get in there with it. But, after your words of wisdom (and comfort) I shall now "sorrowfully" return it .

There are compartments with screws in them, but these have been removed. The problem seemed to be one of either "Knack" or Knacker. Also I had not mentally resolved the dilemma of removing the display panel. But, as of this instant, I have ceased to concern myself with it.

Catgate, I just found this Notebook Forum.

Maybe someone there has some experience.

These are the Fujitsu threads.... NotebookForum - Fujitsu

Good work Irene.

I just had a trawl through the forum to see if there was enlightenment to be found. the closest is This post.

The guy has an identical problem but no solution was offered.

Thank you both for your efforts,

The offending box of tricks is now back with our neighbour, and I have stored the gleaned information away safely in my forgettery.

The experience has reinforced my opinion of laptops in general. Once you reduce the size of anything to below the irreducible minimum you are heading up that well known creek.
