RedScissors
I'm having a bit of trouble dual booting XP alongside Vista on my Samsung HD501LJ which I fitted yesterday (29/06). I manage to boot on the disc and go through one of the stages of installation but when it restarts to do more I get the following:Verifying DMI pool data ............Disk read error. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restartI consulted my CMOS to find that...> IDE Channel 0 Master [LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-16]> IDE Channel 0 Slave [ none]> IDE Channel 2 Master [samsung HD501LJ]> IDE Channel 3 Master [ none]I can't remember the configuration for when my old HD was in there but something tells me that the HD should be at the top (I'm not at all familiar with this). If anyone has any suggestions I'll be glad to know of them, thank you. Alan2273
Very strange to have 3 IDE channels on a motherboard, normally it is IDE 0 master / Slave and IDE 1 Master / Slave, unless you have a PCI / IDE card fitted.Have you tried swapping over the connections for IDE Channel 0 Master [LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-16] and the IDE Channel 2 Master [samsung HD501LJ] on the motherboard. Boris
Can you just clarify which O/S you have been able to partly install ? XP or Vista ?Don't forget that XP will need you to load the SATA drivers for your Samsung HD501LJ
RedScissors
Alan2273:I would try swapping the connections but they don't fit in each other.Boris:Trying to install XP, Vista is already installed. I've already ruled out the possibility of the hard drive being faulty because the drive works perfectly under Vista.Very good idea about the loading of the SATA drivers. I didn't have to do that with my last drive but I'll give it ago this time. Also, might want to mention that I actually want to triple boot with some Linux distro too but it has been tested on this drive and it "Just Works" ;)Thanks for the help guys. RedScissors
Just tried loading the drivers, I'm assuming that I pres F6 when prompted by the XP install; it asked me for software that came with the drive but there is none.
