zzr Posted July 5, 2008 Report Share Posted July 5, 2008 Running win.XP and the Explorer.exe prog. in task manager is using 50% of CPU as is sytem idle and the network connection icon is showing a constant stream of data in and out. I have run various virus and spybot programs and other than a few cookies nothing seems untoward. The pc isn't running slow but obviously there is something in the background that shouldn't be there.Anyone else had a similar problem? In the registry it shows 2 tcpip settings in the Local Machine/system/controlset001 causing a conflict. I have to manually put in the IP address etc (not able to get it to do it automatically) then a window says there's a hidden network card with the same setting do I want to change to another setting. I have tried deleting the registry settings but that caused a panic when I get a can't find TCPIP blah,blah,blah.I think this is whats making the CPU work so much and the constant flow of data through the connection. How can I clear out the TCPIP settings in the registry and start afresh? I was considering uninstalling the TCPIP then reinstalling, but I can only see TCPIP V6 as an option and I have had problems on another pc trying to use this version.
