Lamb Chop Posted July 12, 2008 Report Share Posted July 12, 2008 Hi - I use XP home 2600 and it has two windows where yu can connect to the internet.Main is the one start>connect>ADSLSecondary one comes up on boot up and you can click on to auto and it will connect you on bootup.This secondary one seems a sensitive little soul as it got lost on the IE7 roll out and as I use 'firefox' rolled back to IE6 and back it came .Now following the patch K951748/ZA problem - it has disapeared again as this patch and setting on ZA caused a problem on connection - got the latest version but it still has not come back on boot up so now have to go Start.connect etc every time.I have Winpatrol so have gone thru every entry on startup to see if I can find it as it must have been there once but is now gone.I went to Help and support and ran everything on there to try to find it but still cant as not sure what it is called. Looked at everything that said connections but mainy for other things likes networks etc.I have also done several system restores taking it right back to day prior to patch arriving and it says no changes on all.Baffled :( Anyone tell me what this little and lovely widow is called and how to find and re activate it? :lol: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Lamb Chop Posted July 14, 2008 Author Report Share Posted July 14, 2008 :( Guess no one knows.I have tried another forum too and they dont know.On two computers running XP home I have had this marvellous device a second little window that tick auto and it will connect you.Maybe I am not explaining it properly.No one else obviously has ever had this on XP home 2600.Now I have lost it. have to go to start - connect - every time.So is that what you all do too? Does your Internet connection (ADSL) not get established when you start Windows? Have you checked the settings in Start -> Settings -> Network Connections? Lamb Chop Posted July 15, 2008 Author Report Share Posted July 15, 2008 Irene - thanks for that but I want to find the missing piece I lost in the snafu over ZA and K951748.Pat - this is the window from start>connect>In screen shot.The one that appeared on boot up is different - smaller - same one as old dial up via telephone line but I still have dial up broadband so need it to auto connect or I have to wait for it to boot and load and then start.connect etc whereas used to walk away and do other jobs whilst it got on with connecting and updating and collecting emails and all the anti virus and spyware auto updates.That is the missing one - maybe if you don't have dial up broadband it doesn't appear. Who knows I don't as only ever had old dial up and then dial up broadband - it dials my ISP I imagine. so this is all I have left to date - I have uninstalled the patch and completely uninstalled ZA and then reinstalled ZA with no memory so going thru learning curve and then downloaded the patch. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted July 15, 2008 Report Share Posted July 15, 2008 Hmmm, this looks so different from anything I see on any of my XP systems...I don't need to do any connect, and I don't see any connect window - it just automatically connects to the Internet on startup.Maybe the difference is that I have a LAN here at the office, as well as at home. I have that disabled on my connections as it kept coming up on the task bar saying a cable is unplugged. Hope that is not a problem - bit of guess by me :D My connection is in Dial Up section. Lamb Chop Posted July 15, 2008 Author Report Share Posted July 15, 2008 Hey guys - got it back I think - anyway tried this and got connected.Advised off a forum I go to that has one guy who is a bit of the expert - he saidStart>control panel>network/Internet connections>and then Internet options and check "always dial my default connection.I tried that and found the other place I was looking for - forgot how to get their and low and behold someone had taken off the tick on always dial - so did it - restart and woopee - connected automatically.I've written it down in my little book I keep - so can find it again if this happens again.I do wonder how these things get altered though - as at the same time I was trying to get back to normal - I had taken off Auto updates and then later found it back on and I didnt do it.
