Cannot access "MyComputer" function

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm using Windows XP.

As of last night I cannot get the "My Computer" window to do anything but freeze and display "Not Responding".

I can use the internet and application-icons on my desktop can open programs, but I can't access either of the two hard drives on My Computer and the System Restore is not operating.

Please tell me what can be done.

Thanks for your consideration,

verdegris

You could try this - http://support.microsoft.com/gp/pc_ie_intro. It's for Internet Explorer, but because IE and Explorer are so interconnected, it may help.

You mention two hard drives. Could one of these drives be corrupt? If it is, Explorer may be trying to access the files but is unable to and this would cause it to appear to be non-responsive.

Microsoft also provides - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315094

and another one to check out is - http://www.petri.co.il/windows_xp_right-click_bug.htm

Can you provide any more information? Unfortunately your description is very vague and hard to pin point a problem.
