Faergen
I have a Latitude D530 Dell laptop with SigmaTel HD soundcard. I also have an external Creative Xmod soundcard. What happens:When I play Midi files, the players start going, but No sound comes out. Both Winamp, WMP and a player called MidiYodi specifically for windows. When I try to convert a Midifile to Mp3, dBpowerAMP says: "CLI Encoder has not been configured, open the file \program files\Illustrate\dBpowerAMP\Encoder\CLI Encoder\encoder.txt and change the extension."In this file, there is Only the line ".ext", so I have No idea what to do. I tried in childish ignorance to add ".midi" in the line bellow, but of course it didn't work.In my sound preferences for Creative, I can control: Speaker, Wave, SW Synth, CD Player and Line. (As you have noticed, Not midi.)For SigmaTel I can control the same, except Line is instead PC Speakers. My Device for Midi in my soundpreferences i of course Microsoft GS Wavetabe Synth. What I have tried so far:I checked and updated available drivers for SigmaTel (I was unable to find Any for the Creative Xmod), so I know Both drivers are working properly.I have checked for swmidi.dll in system32, furthermore, I have tried different things with the plugins in Winamp, to see if it was software malfunction, but it is not. When I change the Midi Out in MidiYodi from Midi Mapper to Microsoft GS Wavetabe Synth, says: "Failed to open Midi Device: Microsoft GS Wavetabe Synth. The specified decive is already in use. Wait untill it is free, and try again."In both of the notation programs I have: Score Perfect Professional 4.0 and Midi Notation 4.0.5, I have the Midi Out on Microsoft GS Wavetabe Synth. In MidiNotate, in the preferences for Microsoft GS Wavetabe Synth it says Bank: 0 = General Midi. I don't know if that means I have no midi Bank on my sound card?Just a peculiar thing I have noticed. If you have WMP 11, it turn SW Synth all the way down when you exit? It is really weired, although I did make sure it was up when I checked everything. What to do?Thanks,Faergen
catgate
The midi extension is .mid. So if that was your problem you need to change " I tried in childish ignorance to add ".midi" in the line bellow, but of course it didn't work" to .mid .That having been said I have no real knowledge of the realm of laptops. What I do know is that when ever I have used Winamp it has worked with any type of file beautifully. I reckon it would play a biscuit wrapper.edit.... You do not say which version of Windows you are using. But, what ever it is ,I would expect there to be a File Association section in the system somewhere. Is it possible that something you have recently loaded has done the usual trick of being self important and has gone and altered the .mid association for you?
