AlanHo Posted August 23, 2008 Report Share Posted August 23, 2008 My Acer Vista laptop is loaded with Acer software to control the touchpad mouse, battery economy settings, function key assignment etc. There is a hidden partition on the hard drive containing the operating system and Acer software for recovery purposes. I assume that if I were to format the C: drive I would need to reload the whole system from the recovery partition. I have no idea how to load XP in lieu of Vista plus the special Acer software.You need to be sure you can access and load any special software for your computer. andsome Posted August 24, 2008 Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 You will of course need to purchase an installation disc for XP, why not ask the shop to do the job for you if you are not happy doing it yourself? Alan2273 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 Yes you can format it and install XP but as Alan Ho says you need to do some research on XP drivers for your laptop before you even consider formatting Vista, as sometimes there are no XP drivers available, and you will end up with certain functions on you laptop not working. y2khardtop Posted August 25, 2008 Report Share Posted August 25, 2008 I have a dual-core, dual GPU Toshiba laptop that I tracked down XP drivers for. Toshiba doesn't support it, but I was able to get everything running except for the special function keys, and the HD-DVD drive (for movies, works fine for DVD/CD). Computer runs much better in XP, and was worth the trouble. I have Vista back on the machine now, but plan on going back to XP as soon as I have the time.
