What I need to accomplish is to move the computers OS not the computer. I have been looking into imaging software but all I have found makes images for the same piece of hardware. What I need is an complete image of the OS but it need to work on a completely different piece of hardware. Anyone have had any experiences with this. I have done images before but not like this and usually they are for the same piece of hardware. This case it not the same piece of hardware. If so, you are sailing into troubled waters as you are likely to be breaking the licence agreement if you do it without Microsoft's permission.If you simply want to legally transfer the software & you don't have the original disk, then I think you contact MS who will send you one if certain conditions are fulfilled. No basicly we be ripping this computer down but leaving hardware there since it at a place we need that hardware. We just need the OS off that computer just like it is on the original machine. Not looking to run it on 2 computers at all just basicly moving it from one pc to another with the most minimal down time and the computer we will be moving it to will be a virtual server. If you are not going to run the same software on two machines there is no reason for not putting an alternative HD in the old machine. Hardware can be different as long as certain key points are the same, like partition size, CPU count and amount of Memory installed. It's expensive, but it will provide exactly what you are asking for. The support is also very good.http://www.doubletake.com/You could also try free imaging software, like PING.
