In Windows XP Professional, you can specify users allowed to perform "install" features with a group policy.

Thanx in taking time to answer my question, but my question is in fact : "By which option can we change group policy settings in order

to allow a specific user (Other than the members of the administrators group) to install applications?" ;)

Editing Hidden System Settings using Group Policy Editor

To start the program up follow the directions below.

1. Open the start menu and click Run

2. Type gpedit.msc

3. The Group Policy MMC appears

4. Click through the different nodes of the tree to see all the hidden features of Windows XP that you can edit without touching the registry.

You need to browse around the tree to find functions related to what you are trying to do :)

Some examples of how to use GPE

http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...s/winxpgpe.html

- the last example shown here is I believe in the area where you need to look to adjust things ?

IMHO You need to do the actual spade work yourself so you know what you have changed in the event of a catastrophe !

Edit BTW - are you trying this on XP or in Vista ? (Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) is only available in the Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise versions)
