boot.ini

Hey guys. I got a pretty nasty trojan or whatever that messed my system up. I ran a program in safe mode to delete this issue but now im getting the dreaded

Stop: c000021a {Fatal System Error}

The Session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000026c (0×00000000 0×00000000).

The system has been shut down.

I used knoppix to have a look at the drives and what was messed up and it seems to be the boot.ini

I tried to use my xp cd to repair windows on its own but that option is not available. The only option is to use the recovery console which i know nothing about. Can someone help me either manually edit the boot.ini or tell me how to use the commands in the console to fix this problem ?? Or if someone can tell me another way of doing this. I could do a fresh install but im not really into doing that if i dont have to at this point. I know about taking the drive out and making it a slave to get my files i know all this. I want to boot this windows if possible. Thanx for the help.

What is the content of your boot.ini file? See this article for more info on the boot.ini file http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022

Well i used knoppix to look inside of windows cause it wont boot at all. When i looked at the boot.ini after where it says fastdetect there is a string that says something like noboot/no= something or the other. So i figured that is the source of the problem. Now i just somehow need to edit the boot.ini but i cant log into windows cause it wont go to the logon screen after the windows logo screen. Knoppix dont have a edit option because its in NTFS format. If it were fat32 i could edit it.

A normal boot.ini would look something like this (XP Pro)

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
