Copy large file to USB stick

Hi,

I have a very large (6.5 GB) file I need to archive onto a USB memory stick. The memory stick has plenty of space (7.45 GB), yet Windows thinks otherwise: "The disk in the destination drive is full. Insert a new disk to continue." I thought the command line might be a bit less dumb, but that too refuses to copy the file: "There is not enough space on the disk". How can I convince Windows to count properly??

Hi,

That's not a file ...it's a rasp! An entire angle grinder even.

It's an archive of an entire website, probably including several GBs of server logs. To be honest, I could extract it, go through each file, and trim it down quite substantially, but I'd rather just save it onto a USB stick, bury it in the ground, and forget about it :)

The maximum size of a FAT 32 file is 4GB.

To copy a larger file, the stick must be formatted in NTFS but, many (most) USB sticks cannot be formatted in that system.

Thanks very much, "pops" - works like a treat. It's a shame Windows couldn't give a useful error message in the first place, but it's just as well there are people like you out here willing to help!

Regards.
