I was looking at a news item on teletext this afternoon and saw a wonderful example of the dedication of our police force to the furtherance of lunacy and nannying. It was concerning a large fire at some tyre recycling plant.

The police had advised people living near the plant to keep their windows and doors closed to prevent being affected by the smoke and fumes.

It make one wonder, if they had not been warned, would the police officers themselves have left their own windows and doors open under these conditions, particularly in the middle of winter.

Another often seen lunacy is when a violent criminal is wanted, or escapes, his name is given but no picture is released, and we are told he should not be approached. How do we know who not to approach?

A further amusing and often used 'nonsense' is where, following and accident/fire/explosion etc., we see ...”and the passengers/survivors/uninjured/whatever were led to safety”. How ridiculous. Do they think we would expect the survivors etc. to stand there in the midst of the wreckage wondering what to do?

I think we need a new police “crackdown” on this sort of damn-fool nonsense.

Although, in the words of that often used official police platitude, which is used after almost every “incident”, “If ...blah, blah, blah.......it could have been a lot worse”

Some excellent examples there. Another one is the news item that someone has just lost their battle against some disease or other. I didn't know that people went into battle when they were ill.
