Windows XP Pro refuses OEM serial after repair install

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a HP DC7700 PC with an OEM Windows XP Pro installed on it.

I had a boot problem and to solve it I used a Windows XP Pro CD, following this procedure.

Because I didn't have the original CD handy, I used another CD, which had a serial. To repair, I used that other serial.

I don't have the original XP Pro CD and I didn't want to lose my apps and settings, so I borrowed another CD, and had to use another serial.

My system is back on its feet, but now Windows says my copy of Windows is counterfeit.

I tried these two procedures, but neither worked because of an invalid key, though I type the one found on the sticker on my tower.

I want Windows to accept my OEM key. How do I straight this mess? :uhm:

You made your mistake by entering the serial number from the borrowed disk, you should have entered your origonal serial number.( there should be a sticker on the side of your computer with it on).

Try another repair install and this time use your origonal serial number.
