CurlyWhirly
I've just bought a new Vista PC and am wondering how I import all my Firefox bookmarks, settings, etc from my old PC (with XP on) ?I've read this but can't understand this part as my newly installed version of Firefox doesn't have a Profiles folder Note: If you just installed Firefox on a new computer, you can use the default profile that is automatically created when you first run Firefox, instead of creating a new profile.I've transferred all my firefox settings on to my new Vista PC (in the Firefox folder) but none of my hundreds of bookmarks are there :( What I was thinking of doing was plugging in my old drive from my old PC as it would make tranferring my settings from my old PC to this one easier like for example where I don't know how to set up Windows Mail as all my settings were in Outlook Express. Are there any pitfalls if I were to do this? Thanks. Hb_Kai
They should all come with profiles, the only difference is that they won't show in FF or the Start Menu. You have to run them from the Run command. How to find your profileWindows:Each profile is stored on your hard drive in a profile folder. The following table identifies the default locations of Firefox profiles on various operating systems. * The following examples refer to the default profile. The corresponding profile folder is named xxxxxxxx.default, where xxxxxxxx represents a random string of 8 characters. Operating System Profile Folder PathWindows Vista/XP/2000 %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\Windows 98/Me C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\ * (Windows Vista, XP, and 2000) %APPDATA% is shorthand for the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\ folder (Windows Vista) or the C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\ folder (Windows XP/2000), which depends on your Windows user account name. Windows Vista 1. Click the Windows Start button, and type %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ in the Start Search box near the bottom of the Start menu, without pressing Enter. A list of profiles will appear in the top left of the Start menu. 2. Click on any of the profiles (e.g. xxxxxxxx.default) to open it with Windows Explorer. On Windows 2000 and XP 1. Click the Windows Start button, and select Run.... 2. Type in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ then click OK. 3. Windows Explorer opens a folder containing your profiles. 4. Double-click the profile folder you wish to open (e.g. the xxxxxxxx.default folder).Mac OS:Each profile is stored on your hard drive in a profile folder. The default location of the Firefox profile is ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default/. * xxxxxxxx represents a random string of 8 characters. 1. Open Finder and go to your home folder. Note: your home folder is usually the name of your Mac user account 2. From your home folder open /Library/, then /Application Support/, then /Firefox/, then /Profiles/. 3. Open your profile folder. By default, it is /xxxxxxxx.default/ where xxxxxxxx represents a random string of 8 characters.Linux:Each profile is stored on your hard drive in a profile folder. The default location of the Firefox profile is ~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default/. * xxxxxxxx represents a random string of 8 characters. 1. (Ubuntu) Click the Places menu on the top right of the screen and select Home Folder. A File Browser window will appear. 2. Click the View menu and select Show Hidden Files if it isn't already checked. 3. Double click the folder marked .mozilla. 4. Double click the folder marked firefox. Your profile folders are within this folder.Mozilla Support - Profiles

Hb_Kai
What new Vista OS? Anyway, if it helps; the profile folders are hidden folders and I can't remember the command to show them, but it should probably be on that link somewhere that I posted. CurlyWhirly
What new Vista OS? I had to switch back to my XP PC (i.e. this one) as I forgot to print off my e-mail settings for Outlook Express.I don't know whether they will work with Windows Mail (on the Vista PC) but when I first went on there, there were similar configuration settings so I'm hopeful.Anyway, if it helps; the profile folders are hidden folders and I can't remember the command to show them, but it should probably be on that link somewhere that I posted. Thanks, I'm looking at a solution now.I really need my bookmarks as I have literally hundreds of bookmarks and it would take me ages to write them all down

AlanHo
But wouldn't that only work if you're exporting your bookmarks into IE aswell? As I said - I exported and imported Firefox bookmarks from my desktop computer to my netbook computer without a problem.I do not have IE on the netbook - only Firefox - so IE has nothing to do with it.
