I know one or two of you are tinkering with Windows 7.

I know one or two of you are not interested, so this post is not addressed to you. ;)

But for those that have had a play with the testing build 7000, what are your findings...

What has gone well.

What issues are you having.

Have you solved any troubles.

Where are you going to improve your knowledge of seven.

Who has chosen to use Win7 as their main OS, ha ha.

Answering in order asked.

1. The installation has gone well. I am using it in Parallels VM.

2. Nothing really. I haven't installed any additional programs, just wasnted to see how it looks [not impressed].

3. Read above.

4. I am using my desktop OS(es) for emailing/browsing/youtube so I don't know what else is to improve. 7 is a lot like Vista albeit faster.

5. Not me. I shelled out a lot for two copies of Vista Business so am not going to need 7 in a few years to come.

1/ Reasonably fast install, motherboard drivers found automatically, UAC toned down, a lot more security measures in place.

2/ Would not allow me to install to a separate hard drive with Linux installed on the first hard drive, would not install any free firewall, networking is hit and miss.

3/ Lots of people are posting about the networking problems.

4/ I just installed it to see what it was about and have since taken it of.

As it is a beta, they seem to have got a lot of things right, but the networking side is a headache and the fact that they seem to be locking it down as far as installing free software to replace there's is a no no.

5/I have gone back to Linux and do not see me buying Windows 7 when it becomes available.

Where can I get a copy, if it's legal to get a copy? I know some of my friends have managed to gain a beta testing license or something.

Download it legally from here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7...a-download.aspx

Did Microsoft release a bit torrent version of this?

I tried downloading from this link, but they install some software into Firefox to allow me to download it (continuous/resume download software), but I set my computer to shutdown when my internet cap goes back to on-peak (This is when I'm sleeping), and this program doesn't save my progress!!!

Microsoft doesn't do bit torrent.

The program that was installed is the Akamai Download Manager. It will save the current progress of your download, and allow to resume later. However, if Windows suddenly shuts down, then that information may get lost.

Back to the main point of the post: I like it! I like Windows 7. I was (and still am, I suppose) very against Windows Vista but love Windows 7. It looks alot like Vista, but I guess Microsoft learned alot from complaints and a free beta release was a good idea. I've ran into a few bugs and inconveniences, but only 1 or 2 crashes and I tend to run pretty high-end games and programs.

My opinion of Windows is explained here http://forums.windowsforum.org/index.php?s...c=40325&hl=

I have no reason to alter this opinion for the new version. My granddaughter, who is becoming a computer enthusiast, has a similar view to mine.

Sacrificing efficiency in favour of pointless but pretty effects.
