M$ updates

I am not sure where to put this post. Nor am I sure why I want to ask this question.

However, as I was trawling I came across a piece that said Microsoft warns that Vista, XP upgrade blockers set to expire

I read the article, more out of boredom than interest I think, but at the end of it I was left wondering why M$ would want to block update at all....unless they knew the updates were duff.

The Windows Service Pack Blocker Tool Kit is available from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...D0-E2A72099EDB7

• blocks Windows Vista Service Pack 1 until April 28th, 2009
  
• blocks Windows XP Service Pack 3 until May 19th, 2009
  

The reason why Microsoft makes this blocker available is mainly for large organizations that want to control the rollout of a Service Pack to individual systems, and not let Microsoft Update install these.

Naturally, home users can use it as well if they want to wait until they know what the impact of a Service Pack is.

I still think it a bit odd that update/service packs should be so questionable that their creator thinks that they should want to be blocked. I can understand a company with a big network wanting a synchronised roll out but then that is what IT depts. do isn't it, rather than individual users in the network just doing it for themselves.
