dsuther
Recently, my old Gateway 200 packed it in(mobo, I think). So, I took my hdd (20 Gig Maxtor) and installed it into a stripped-down Dell Dimension 400 ,along with 192Mb of ram, a video card for the monitor and an Ethernet card(not connected to anything yet). When I fire it up, the dos startup screen appears, listing the bios, the192Mb ram and recognizing the hdd and keyboard. Then comes the Dell blue planet logo. After that, I am asked to Enter CURRENT Password:Since I never had a password on my old machine, I`m assuming this is something left over from a prior user.My hdd has Win98 on it. Also, I get the same thing , even though I don`t hit DELETE. I just want to start Windowswithout necessarily going to Setup.Does anyone know anything that might be helpful?Thanksdsuther
Hb_Kai
Would that be a password for your BIOS or Windows?

Hb_Kai
If Optiplex Motherboards aren't the only ones you get for Dells, then check back here and someone may help further.I don't know if they are or not though as I don't know too much about the specific hardware in specific manufactured computers. :(
