Problem: A few weeks ago my mouse started "jumping around", moving randomly whenever I touched it, long story short, after I tried everything to fix it, I had to do a clean XP install. Installation started fine, loaded up all the files and stuff, when it rebooted to complete installation my computer froze on the loading screen, where the green bar cicles. It has done so ever since.1.- At first I thought it was the HDD, so I took it out and put a new one in, and tried to install windows, but same outcome as before. 2.- I thought maybe it was the RAM, so I ran memtest, and came out good. 3.- Then i tried swapping the 400W PSU for a 550W one, same freeze on the loading screen. 4.- Cleared CMOS, changed the battery, loaded optimal settings and still the same result.5.- I have no peripherals pluged in, except the HDD and the CD unit, PS2 KB and no mouse6.- At the setup screen my Processor temperature readings are 59 celcius.Does anyone have a suggestion on what I should try next?Specs: Mobo: PC CHIPS M925G V9.18, 256 MB DDR SDRAM, INTEL P4, WD 80GB HDD, 550W PSU Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

samarth1200 Posted February 11, 2009 Report Share Posted February 11, 2009 I had a similar problem. i unplugged everything except the CD drive, left the power cable on my HDD but disconnected the data cable, after the drivers get loaded onto the ram in the initial boot sequence, i plugged in the data cable. the installation continued fine.I dont knw Y and i dont knw if it is safe to do it but it worked.try it as a last resort. I think with it being a clean windows installation there shouldn't be any virus problems, because it hasn't finished installing windows yet. The damaged CD would be a possible answer, although I did a clean install on another computer with the same CD and CD Reader which went just fine. I also tried changing the IDE cable with no results.The last resort solution doesn't apply here. For every installation there are two phases, the first is where the drivers get loaded onto the RAM and you specify HDD, create partitions and so. Second phase continues the installation after a reboot, where the files get copied to the HDD and get decompressed and so on. My computer is stuck in the boot preceding phase 2.Today I will check for any capacitors that might be damaged in the motherboard, also I will try cleaning the mobo thoroughly with isopropylic alcohol and applying new thermal compound to the processor. That temperature is not fatal as such but if it continues to rise at such a rate (ambient to 59 in a few minutes) that could indicate cooling problems. Remove everything cpet the cdrom, hd and 1 stick or ram. Get it running on that, fully updated and virus software. Then start plugging in hardware one at a time untill the system is up. Rickp400 Posted February 11, 2009 Report Share Posted February 11, 2009 i had a computer fan went bad and not cooling like it should but the OS did fronze up and i had to do the hard boot a forced shutdown and it did it again and i got a box fan to put at the comptuer and it worked i had load of cool air going to it having case open to allow airand i did not have anymore froze or lock-ups Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yesterday i cleaned the mobo with the alcohol, took out the processor and sink, removed the thermal compund and put new silver compound, I tried to boot and same problem.
