Tankus
Back in the 80's.... about 3 months into the strike ....... there was a miner I vaguely knew , outside tesco's in Caerphilly..... with two cardboard boxes under his arms ... saying thank you for food donations , people were just dropping off the odd tin as they left the shop .......!An old nan walked up to him said diolch grabbed a couple of tins and walked off ...he didn't have the heart even to say...... oy! nowdays I think that this has goneI truly fear that we are becoming a humorless society ...with a bit of viciousness thrown in ___________________________________________________I wish that I was back on that beach !now ... don't care if its dark or raining ...just being there ..the air ...waves on the cliffs , sounds crashing on the rocks ..the solitude ...calmness back again this weekend .. albeit.... in the heads of the valleys ...Merthyr T. is a bit grim these days ..though ...a family gathering ..as needs must ! ......got to put in an appearance !___________________________________________________PS...... Ive now got 10 tins of fry bentos (various ..... steak n kidney rules, but the shroom one with the chicken is growing on me ...I do have a strange liking for them though !) ..... ho... and for real emergenciesone of these and a few of these Its just so 70's ...cutting culinary edge ..........out there anyone who can recommend a cheap therapist .. I'm up for it christ ... I'm in need of it I'm sure its the pressure of imminent dismissal ...... (not redundancy...lower cost incursion )_________________________________________________I go to work on the daily grind into the smoke from the east end of urbanism , and I sense a change ...the train I get on .. its no longer armpit to armpit, hanging from the grab handles as the brakes squeal at a red light , various body parts thrust into you as people loose their balance ......doors open on arrival , people fall out and try to get back on again, with the look of anger that they may miss THIS train ! temps well into the hundreds in summer ....humid and glass condensationary sweaty in winter .......Now there is more silence Sometimes I can get a seatMore space ......but no laughs or humorno avoidance of eye contact , but look you in the eye ...expressionless ...waiting ...staring its coming

deuces wild
We need to get back to basics with lending, especially mortgages. No more than 90%, and no higher repayment per month than 25% of ONE partners income. This would help keep houses affordable. :DUS banks (as well as Federally chartered Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) were fronting mortgages to folks who could not afford the payments. The US Congress forced this move. As a result we now have record high foreclosures and failing financial institutions. Add to the mix over valued stock prices and poorly managed companies, including our Big 3 auto makers and we have the 'perfect storm' for the economic meltdown we are seeing. There is plenty of blame to go around, including on our government for forcing the mortgage financing plan, financial institutions offering mortgages to folks who were not financially qualified for the loan to the idiots taking out these mortgages and poor management practices.I feel sorry for our kids and their kids as they will be paying for this mess and the $3 trillion USD economic recovery plan. I also feel sorry for folks who lost large amounts of money planned to be used for retirement. BTW: $3 trillion USD is equal to $3 million USD/day paid since the birth of Jesus. CurlyWhirly
I feel sorry for our kids and their kids as they will be paying for this mess and the $3 trillion USD economic recovery plan.We have a similar problem here with the UK national debt over 150% of GDP because of all the bank bailouts and heavy government borrowing because of dwindling tax receipts caused by the recession :(

deuces wild
crancking up some talking heads on tha' ipod ..." were on a road to nowhere ,come on an ride" from dizzysFrom my perspective on the other side of the pond:We have been preparing for my planned retirement (it would have happened this month if I did not suffer my disability) and thanks to our financial adviser we moved the majority of our stock investments to guaranteed annuity's or cash/cd's in 2007. The timing could not have been better.I feel sorry for folks who lost the bulk of their retirement savings, most especially those nearing their retirement. The 20~40 year old crowd will be able to rebound and recoup their losses over the long run once the bull market (and the recovery) begins.RE: The stock market..........we apparently have not yet reached bottom. Obama needs to define exactly how his economic recovery plan will help. Until then folks see trillions of dollars promised to be spent and are fearful as that sort of government spending has never before been seen and will put our future generations paying for it.So..............were stock prices overvalued at the 14,000 pt. Dow? Are we now are realistic prices and will they be slower to appreciate? A bad mix.......low stock prices, unemployment at over 8% nationally, home foreclosures, company's going out of business at a record rate, billions of government (our) money already spent.........damn.Economic Stimulus Plan and change.............it it on Obama now. I would hate to be in his position.Sorry to be so doom and gloom but this is indeed beyond scary.
