Panarchy Posted April 19, 2009 Report Share Posted April 19, 2009 HelloWhich Windows Operating system would be best to use for running VMware Virtual Machines?I have all my Virtual Machines stored on an NTFS partition created with Server 2008.For this reason, I need to use an Operating System with full read/write (with full speeds, not FUSE) NTFS capability.The reason I'm using NTFS is for cross-platform interoperability.Mac OS X, FreeBSD, Linux (RPM based), Linux (DEB based), Solaris & OpenSolaris can all have FUSE installed on them, subsequently I'll install the NTFS-3g driver, enabling read/write to the NTFS file-system.Which Operating System (running VMware Workstation 6.5.2) would be best (run fastest) for running multiple Virtual Machines simultaneously?Please reply.Thanks in advance,Panarchy Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Panarchy Posted April 19, 2009 Author Report Share Posted April 19, 2009 Certainly :DJust figuring out FreeBSD, Solaris & OpenSolaris... with only 1 primary partition left, it's gonna be hard.So I'm thinking about trying to install Mac OS X onto a Logical Partitition, and trying to get the Vista/Windows 7 boot-loader installed onto a logical partition as well, thus giving me a total of 3 primary partitions to spare.Then I can do some 'crazy' things with the different GRUB menus... could be 'fun'!PanarchyPS: Back on topic? So I don't know what the newest versions can or cannot do...Is there a 64bit version of VMware? If not, then there is no point of hosting it on a 64bit OS.Which leaves us with the question - what Windows version?Windows 7 - still beta; don't use it for anything productive.Vista - heavy overhead; unusable.Windows XP - still the only Windows version that performs well.So, here is your answer...
