catgate Posted April 26, 2009 Report Share Posted April 26, 2009 Well hello boober.Not good news for you virst visit, sadly.I think you are trying to do the impossible.As I read your query it sounds as though your HD was reformatted and then Vista was installed on to it.The reformatting will have made the previous material on the HD unreadable by almost anything other than some very sophisticated forensic type gear.I rather think your only course of action is to accept that it is gone, blow your nose and start again. AlanHo Posted April 26, 2009 Report Share Posted April 26, 2009 If you are trying to recover files that were on the HD before the reformat and before the installation of Vista - the prospects are bleak. You could try a recovery program but Vista is huge and will have over-written most of your data. For example my installation of Vista comprises 69,400 files and occupies 16.5 GB. If however, you are trying to recover files written to the HD after the reformat and after the installation of Vista there are a number of data recovery programms that might help.
