Selecting Files with the Control Key

Recommended Posts

I have a folder with about 1.9 GB of pictures and movies. If I click on the first file and hold down the shift key and go to the last file, then select that file it selects all files. Like it should. I can copy all files to a new folder without a problem.

Sometimes if I select a file and then hold down control key, then start selecting other files, sometimes it does a copy of selected files to the same folder(makes a copy). It is werd because it does not happen all the time. It doesn't matter how many files I select. This has happened to me on two different computers, running XP Pro. Has anyone ever had this same problem?

I had a similar effect once, it turned out to be something wrong (contact bounce or something) with the Ctrl key on a specific keyboard as, when I swapped it for another, the fault disappeared.

You could try using the other Ctrl and/or Shift keys.

I think this anomoly may also be something to do with the numbering and/or date sequence of the files, as something similar sometimes happens if I try to use the same key combination to re-number files. Usually it works, but occasionally it doesn't & that seems to be linked to whether I've moved the position of a file manually to make it out of sequence.
