Hard Drive Problem

Recommended Posts

My roomate just got a new hard drive. I have installed new hard drives and Windows before, no problem. He just got a 1TB Seagate Barraccuda. I have one and it works well. I installed Vista Home Premium 64 on mine and it was fine. When I try to install Vista 64 on his, it gives me an error code of: 0x80070057.

This is a new partition that is empty. Oh, and it won't let me format it either. Same error code.

Any help?

Ok, so I went to the link provided and did a little looking around. Someone had an idea. What I failed to realize is that my roomate didn't get a 1TB HDD... he got a 1.5TB. The idea was to take out a dimm of RAM and to reformat the drive size down to 1TB. I did this. He has about 500GB of unallocated space BUT while partitioning it to 1TB I was able to get the installation working without the error.

I guess for future reference, have no more than 1TB in a single drive if you are using Vista... ??? We'll see. Good news is that it's working. That's the important part. Thank you.
