Boris
A few questions ?Have you tried using it in other USB ports ?Is it plugged into a hub, into a socket on the board, or into a powered USB hub ?Does it work OK on another PC ?Does your external H/D have its own power supply ? i.e. it is a 3.5" one, or is it one of the USB connection only 2.5" drives ? ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Have you tried to check for new hardware (Control Panel | Add Hardware)?
-pops-
Have you, at any time, unplugged the drive without going through the "Safely remove hardware" procedure? This can easily cause the death of a hard* drive if disconnection is done whilst the drive is reading or writing.*Or any other drive.See http://forums.windowsforum.org/index.php?showtopic=32464
TZOF
The problem seems to be with some cypress at2lp rc42 drivers but i don't understand much...........
Boris
If your drive is a Seagate, I believe that XP may have automatically downloaded and installed this Cypress at2lp driver. It is apparently what causes the problem, so if you do as set out below - it should fix things.Control Panel --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager --> Universal Serial Bus controllers"cypress at2lp" should be at the top of that listRight click it --> Properties --> Driver --> Roll Back DriverAnd if the external hard drive in question is plugged in and turned on, it should be immediately recognized and reappear right after the rollback is completed. Then make sure you adjust your Windows Updates to ignore and not install this driver again.
