accidently deleted hard drive partition? help!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

A newbie here, and really hoping you can please help.

I have a PC with Windows XP Home (SP 2).

My hard drive © was full so I tried to combine (D) with it. (As opposing to using it separately because i thought iTunes neededto access songs from the same hard drive letter).

I went to somewhere called Computer Management (I can't remember how I got there now)!

I selected (D) and right clicked and then clicked 'departition'.

I thought that would just remove the partition and combine © and (D). But instead (D) has just disappeard!!

There was no data on it (I don't think) but I need it back because its half my hard disk capacity just vanished!!

Can anyone please give me an idiots guide to getting it back please, and then tell me how to combine © and (D)? !!

thank you so much in advance. i'm desperate!

thank you both for your (seemingly complicated) suggestions.

But all I needed to do was Control Panel / Admin. Tools / Computer Management / Disk 0 (my hard drive with TOTAL capacity shown) / Right Click / Create Partition. Then, start the automatic NTFS (including Format) proceedure it offered.

Now I can use the other 50% of my hard drive again! (And it's even called (D:) just like before).

I think you're all TOO expert - you couldn't see the wood for the trees!

You're quite wrong - not all of us members are too expert - I am as thick as a plank and polite with it too.

Good for you! Me too, I would hope! (But surely you hadn't commented previously)?

I am extremely happy for you.

As you are able to see the wood, despite the trees, you will no longer be able to label yourself a newbie, nor need advice.

Just remember what you asked for ....Can anyone please give me an idiots guide to....

I was once told that if you can form your question in such a way that it is understandable to whoever you are asking about it, you are almost capable of answering it yourself.

How does that work?

It is to do with the way in which you arrange the elements of the question, or the sequence of events leading up to the reason for the question. In trying to present the matter logically and sequentially you begin to see it in that way yourself, which is very often not the case at the outset.

For example, for years I thought I could not play the violin, despite trying very hard. Then someone saw me trying, and said, "What are you trying to do with that piano?" I then realised why it was that I could not get it under my chin.
