Lengthy shutdown

hnoel, there are a large number of possible reasons for a slow shutdown, and you may need to experiment a bit. Usually there are multiple reasons. In my view re-installing the operating system (as some appear to be recommending) should be a last resort as it has its own problems & sometimes can be a cause of slow shutdowns owing to the re-installed system trying to access files that are no longer accessible.

One solution that helped me was Windows own User Profile Cleanup Service available HERE. This only has to be run once and helps ensure that all services shut down properly.

An additional step is to create a fast shutdown icon on your desktop. You find out how to do that at THIS SITE (ignore the adverts on this page, just follow the text in the centre).
