bobfif Posted September 5, 2009 Report Share Posted September 5, 2009 For some reason that I can not explain my PC started booting from Win 98 vice XP. A quick background - about 4 years ago upgraded my PC (intel) from 98 to XP. Did not set PC up as a dual boot. Had a PC tech add a new disk drive and load XP onto the new drive, then moved data / loaded software. The old drive remained installed so I could get to any future data I may have not moved but needed to access. The PC has been working fine and automatically booting up as a XP box. At boot up never asked from which OS to boot up. About two weeks ago came home from a trip, turned on PC and it now boots up as a 98 box. I have tried every thing I can think of to get to the "new drive" and get it to boot as a XP box. No luck. One other bit of info - when open an EXCEL or a WORD doc can only see the docs that existed on the old drive, i.e., all dated 2004 /2005. All the docs created on my new XP drive are not visible nor can be located via a global search. Any help / suggests will be greatly appreciated. Boris Posted September 5, 2009 Report Share Posted September 5, 2009 Have you checked inside the case that the IDE cable + power lead for your new drive are still connected firmly ?When you look in the BIOS does it recognise both hard drives ? Thanks BobTurn on your PC or restart it if it's already on.Watch for an "entering setup" sort of message in the first few seconds after turning on your computer. This message varies greatly from PC to PC and details the key or keys you need to press to enter your BIOS.Here are some common ways you might see this BIOS access message:Press [key] to enter setup Setup: [key] Enter BIOS by pressing [key] Press [key] to enter BIOS setup Press [key] to access BIOS Press [key] to access system configurationQuickly press the key or keys instructed by the previous message to get into BIOS.Note: You may need to press the BIOS access key(s) several times to enter BIOS.
