Mention it only to qualify both are on DSL and linux is fast.When I have occasion to go to my windows unit the boot time is slow, and when finally up and running the response time from click on an icon to access is sometimes 3 - 5 minutes. This most likely accounts for the time difference in startup. Check on the programs scheduled to load at startup and if they are really necessary. Startup Inspector is a good aid for this http://www.windowsstartup.com/Regarding the slow response when the system is actually going, this could be due to a number of causes including:Overfull hard drive - lots of clutter and unwanted files and programs slowing access.Heavily fragmented hard drive - giving the drive a lot of work to do to access the required data.Insufficient RAM.- and others.Check on the drive and remove programs and files you don't need. Cleanup unwanted and orphan files with Disk Cleanup (part of Windows) and/or Ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/Defragment the drive using Windows own defragmenter or an independent.
