I bought the preordered Ultimate at a good discount and prepared to install - it would not let me do an upgrade from the Release candidate so I Easy Transferred all of my gear to an external drive as a mig file and then did a clean install. On trying to run the Easy transfer it kept asking for a password I never put in in the first place and refuses to accept blanks or anything else. I am sat here with over 55Gig on my external drive and no idea how to access it!The box was definitely clear so I have no idea what Windows has written in by itself. Is there any way I can release this please - I am desperate after all the effort I put in to the Transfer file.Are there any commercial tweaks available that might work.Thanks in anticipationKaypee Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There were warnings issued when downloading both of these about using them for evaluation purposes only NOT to use for anything valuable or important. Are you not able to access the ET file at all? Do you have any backups of the data you are trying to retrieve?I did do some backups earlier but Win7 RC suddenly dropped the Buffalo NAS server so I could not get at them. It has appeared again now but is obviously not up to date.With regards to the Easy Transfer - I notice that something similar to this has occurred with Vista et al in the past. I don't know if this is relevant or not but there may be some connection.I can see the Easy Transfer file on the External disk but I have no idea how to access this unknown password block.I have tried my reserved passwords and also the Computer generated names you get in Windows system etc but all to no avail; and of course putting in the blank password does not work either. An operating system or is it a plain file system?The file is *.mig file which is the extension for Easy Transfer - I set it up as directed by Microsoft to transfer the usual applications drivers and favourites etc.I ticked the boxes I wanted to transfer and all was accepted and transferred as I required with - unfortunately - this password problem.I can find no way of seeing anything but the mig file which I assume is compressed so I cannot see any individual file or folder details in there.Kaypee Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
