Windows 7 / Windows XP dual boot

I had a dual boot setup fine with Windows 7 and XP by installing XP on one partition first, then 7 on the other second.

I forgot to activate Windows XP, and waited 30 days before I had to use it.

So I just reinstalled XP, and activated right away.

Now when I boot up, Windows 7 is not even given as an option, and the computer boots directly to XP now.

Is there a file I can edit so I can once again get the dual boot option?

Do you know what has happened with your partitions? It's possible that you could have installed XP over Windows 7, in which case, if you don't have anything on Windows 7 you want to keep, you have an easy solution.

If you still have the Windows 7 partition somewhere, create a Dual Boot Menu using DualBootPRO.

But firstly, what has happened to Windows 7?

Hi Tequiller, Welcome.

Use EasyBCD - Very easy to use and configure.

"EasyBCD modifies the Windows Vista/7 bootloader to add support for other entries.

Hopefully you have not corrupted or deleted anything, and return back to dual boot will be a doddle.

Make sure that both of your partitions are still in place (XP & 7) and can be viewed in some way (Linux Live Disc, - or whatever is your choice.....)

Try to reclaim that which was once there, but be prepared to perhaps, format, re-partition, and re-install Operating Systems. Give it a good shot first though to see what you can reclaim.

Thanks I'll try those programs.

The Windows 7 partition is still definitely there, as I'm using files from my documents folder that is still on the Win 7 side.
