I see you have no ansswers yet to your questions, and I must say I am not very sure of what you are talking about.

But I do know that this Windows Vista operating system is the worst abomination that I have ever come across in my 30 years of using computers.

Surely, someplace, someone, is starting a class action suite against the Microsoft Corporation, for all the pain and suffering they have caused with this lousy computer operating system .

I am even getting jerked around pretty good by the usual reliable HP Corporation, in getting the free copy of Windows 7 that I am entitled to.

Also be aware that Dell computers have their own special ways for re-installing Windows. Go to their website and search for the model name and number to find out how to do that correctly. If you are already using the correct method and the re-installation or repair still won't work, then you probably have a hardware problem, so take it to a technician for checking. If the laptop is still under warranty, Dell should repair or replace it for free.
