Problem with windows and fltmgr

Hello. This morning i wanted to search something, so i opened the computer. When it got to windows xp screen (the one before you chose which account you log in), my computer has restarted; i had tried several times, but each time had restarted. So I decided to repair Windows XP using my cd. I repaired it, waited until it "reinstalled it"(without loosing any file, just repairing the system). All seemed fine, it entered in the desktop,i installed some drivers and i pressed on restart. When it restarted, I clicked on my account name, but suddenly a blue screen appeared. It said: "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer" , and down it appeared " stop:0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xB9DE949D, 0xA9CB6644, 0x00000000) fltmgr.sys - Address B9DE949D base at B9DD3000, DateStamp 41107bad". So i entered using safe mode(i didn't get any error while in safe mode) and searched for that file. I found it in windows\system32\drivers and in windows\softwaredistribution\download\9866fb57abdc0ea2f5d4e132d055ba4e. There i backed up the file, moved it from there, and restarted and entered as a normal mode(not safe one) and it worked; but my kaspersky 2010 antivirus has major problems: Your computer security is at risk.Some components cannot be enabled. And if i press fix it now it exits the program(kis 2010) and if i enter avp.exe again, the same problem i get. What should i do? (i used registrybooster but it doesn't fix any error);(the only time i didn't get an error with fltmgr.sys was when i just repaired windows, next time (after a restart) it appeared the blue screen and it appears everytime i have fltmgr.sys in those folders and not moved from there).Can you please help me with this problem? (in the blue screen also appears something with dump memory). Thank you in advance.

Hi, and Welcome.

fltmgr.sys is a "Microsoft Filesystem Filter Manager".

Malware (Virus, trojan, crappy stuff) can disguise itself as fltmgr. sometimes, which may be why your Kaspersky is throwing up a warning.

Download the "free" version of "Malwarebytes" and scan your whole system whilst in Safe Mode. That will sort out most "Nasties" if there are any.

At the same time it may well be worth turning off System Restore and then turning it back on again this will clear previous restore points and any malware contained within.

Take full advantage of free anti-malware like Malwarebytes, SuperantiSpyware, Spybot, Spywareblaster in the future and focus more on that, than the"Magic" claims of registry boosters and cleaners.

Everytime you get a "Bluescreen" (BSOD = Bluescreen of Death) - a file is created. This is called a "Mini-dump" and contains information as to the reasons for the crash. This is what you mention in your post.

You can read and analyse the mini-dump very easily these days by downloading an application from Nirsoft, called "BlueScreenView."

Download it, and just click on it, and it will help you see what is causing the BSOD. Nothing to install. :D

I updated my windows to sp3, with all updates, and now it works fine(i dont get BSOD and kis 2010 works normal... so the problem was with some code wrong written in the file fltmgr.sys i think); anyway, thanks for your advices.

Now that things are ok, - dont let it slip. Get some Disk Imaging software up and running (Acronis or Macrium) for possible future failures.

Keep on top of Malware. (Never rely on just one product, - i.e Kaspersky)

If you are hell bent on messing about with the registry in the future use ERUNT to give auto daily backups and it's associated NTREGOPT to optimize the registry. That's all you are going to need after a good anti-malware scan of the registry.

The rest of the "RegistryCleaners & Optimizers" are mostly "Snake Oil" and do more damage than good. (Dangerous in the hands of non-computer savvy, - and lethal for those who think they know what they are doing. )

Hmmm... last time i have bought a package with uniblue registry booster, driverscanner and speed up my pc, in order to make my computer work faster. Then i ran then and let them do the job;next day when i opened the computer i received the error. May this be the problem? I got them from here: http://www.liutilities.com/ , and I registered them and ran them.
