Obviously you did not upgrade Vista to Windows 7, but installed Windows 7 in a separate partition beside Vista. Now you have two Windows versions on your computer, and you select which Windows to boot from the boot manager menu.

Is that not what you wanted?

If everything is working satisfactorily, it would be best to leave things as they are. Messing around trying to delete operating systems such as it seems you might want to be doing is fraught with danger (especially with Dell machines which tend to be "unconventional").

I just read through the post from "pops" and found that I could understand it, and it's wisdom. Which part of his post are you not understanding ?

How can I separate them so I can only have windows seven ?

It is here that a question begs a question/s. (Sorry, - I am not trying to be a smartass)

How much experience do you have with dual-booting ?

How much experience do you have with formatting ?

How much experience do you have with partitioning ?

Do you feel competent enough to tackle any of the above ?

Are you ready to start any of the above and possibly end up with the consequences of no operating system at all ?

Do you have a Windows 7 operating system disk that you would feel confident enough to install on a re-formatted (blank) hard disk?

Yep. You can get Windows 7 on that computer of yours as the only operating system. Along the way you are gonna learn about "Dell Computers" "Dual-Booting" "Formatting" "Partitioning" and a whole lot of other stuff. That's a real good thing, and i wouldn't wanna be turning anyone off of a learning curve.

Iffn' you jus' want a quiet life and just wanna use your computer and not be fiddling about with it all the time. well...........

If on the other hand you are hell bent on fiddling about all the time start "Googling" for all the above requirements.

I haven't tried this in Windows 7 yet, but in XP Pro, you can choose which OS to boot into by going to System Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery. In XP Pro, you can deselect the time to show the list of Operating System choices.

If this can be set in Windows 7, you may want to just lower the time to 5 seconds and then it will just auto boot to your first choice. If Windows 7 is your preference, then move it up the list.

Again, not sure if this can be set in Windows 7, but worth a shot to look into. If it can be done this way in Win7, then this should be an acceptable solution.
