Java Installation error

Hi,

I have been trying to install Java on my machcine running Windows XP and have a couple of issues which prevent me from doing the same.

The error is

"Windows cannot access the specified device,path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

The location it is refering to is

"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\1B7YPTA\Java setup6u1....."

For this i have tried to change the properties on the Temp folder in "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\" by unchecking Read Only but when i come back to the propeties page, "READ ONLY is checked again".

is this the reason that error is being thrown at me?

Try running the Java installer when you are in SAFE mode

Try Boris's approach first ! -

- If you are still stuck without Java, - try the following:

I note that you are using Internet Explorer.

Firstly try taking the following steps:

(1) - Clear Temporary Internet files (cache and cookies) If you are unsure how to do this there is a guide ** Here **

If you are using an Internet Explorer Browser earlier than version 7 it is advisable to update it.

(2) - Download the latest Java Runtime Environment 6 Update 18 from ** Here **

Download to your desktop. If your operating system is 32-bit you will be required to download from "Softpedia Mirror (US) - x86 (64-bit versions are suffixed x64)

Softpedia is a well trusted download site.

(3) - Download JavaRa from ** Here **

(4) - Unzip JavaRa, click on JavaRa.exe, and then on the tab that says "Remove Older Versions" It looks like this.

(5) - Install Java from the previously downloaded file which is sitting on your desktop.

Voila !!! One way or the other you should now have java installed on your computer.
