A Question About Backups/Restoring

I have a question about restoring an entire Windows installation. Currently I'm using WinXP SP3 Professional, and ntbackup. I've made a backup tape that contains everything on C:, including the programs, settings, registry, etc... I've only had to totally restore it once. The actual restoration was quick and easy (only about 20 minutes and I didn't really have to do anything) but it was a pain because I had to reinstall Windows, re-enter the serial, network etc... (takes over an hour) just so I could run ntbackup to restore the data. Is there a way to do this without reinstalling Windows? Since the tape already contains all of the system files, etc... is there a way to do a total backup from the tape using the WinXP install CD or a boot disc?
