Windows updating problems

Are any other Vista users having problems with the downloading/installation of Windows updates? For the last 2 months I have had problems, either when i have downloaded updates, they won`t install,or they just won`t download.Sometimes they even cause my PC to hang up,requiring a hard reboot.I am told it is to do with user/administrator permissions, but I have`nt touched them since I got the PC 2 and a half years ago.Of course there could be a virus in my system causing the problem. However,it is not just the windows updates but also the updates for both Windows defender and Microsoft Security Essentials which won`t download/install.I can download updates, software etc from any other site and I can also download software from Microsoft. The problem is so bad that I have turned off automatic updating and so far,my PC does`nt appear to have suffered because of this. The other thing is that since Microsoft brought out Windows 7,they appear to be quite happy to leave Vista users high and dry.

What is the error code you get from the failed Microsoft Update?

Sorry for not responding sooner. The error code is either failed to download or failed to install. It depends on what the item is being "downloaded"

8007065E,is the most common one. This is for security updates. 80242006 and 80246001 are two others that come up.I have,in the meantime, switched off my updates and it does`nt seem to have harmed my PC Cheers

Also I suggest you check 2 other items:

1 Do you have sufficient space capacity on your hard disk. Run disk clean-up to clear out junk.

2 Do you you have a very slow dial-up connection? Sometimes this can be the cause of updates and software becoming damaged when downloading.

I have a 500 Gig hard drive and have only used 110 Gig of it.My ISP connection is via ADSL broadband and has a good download speed.Everything else bar Microsoft security stuff downloads very fast
