Removing personal photos from desktop list of backgrounds

Recommended Posts

Inadvertantly copied about 16 pictures from "My Pictures" into the list of desktop backgrounds. When I moved the "My Pictures" file to a flash drive the listings disappeared, but when I reloaded them they reappeared. Can't seem to delete them and I don't plan to archive my pictures until the end of the year. Not an earth shaking event but I would like to know how to remove them even though the problem poses basically no problem other than bugging me. Please advise if any of you have had this happen. Thanks, Printmaker

It rather looks to me as though the actual files are still in "My Pictures" file and only their location and not the actual files is included in your desktop backgrounds list.

If this is the case,( verifiable by moving the "My Pictures" to a flash drive and then after removing it trying to change desktop background,) you should be able to remove them from your desktop background list with safety.

Thanks for the info. Noticed yesterday that a new folder of about 14 pictures is on the list also and I never tried to change the background. Looks like everything and anything going into My Pictures is automatically going into the list. I could move the pics back to the flashdrive and then select one of the stock photos and while that is the new background put the photos back into My Pictures and see what happens. I know I have to get this fixed in as I usually end up with about 4 gigs of photos over a year and that list could get pretty long. Am I supposed to be deleting your message as I respond with my new one? Thought there might be a max to amount of text after awhile. I live in Milwaukee by the way. Will look forward to any comment, and try the remove thing again. I do not want to store my pics on the flash drive by the way, would rather get this glitch fixed. Read somewhere that I should copy any pictures I want for a background into a separate folder in My Documents and work from there. That sounded like the best idea yet, but I still have the problem here and now, auto dumping from another program.

I would think catgate meant for you to copy them to the flash drive to be safe (in case it deletes them from my pictures)then delete them from the desktop backgrounds list. You don't need to delete anything.

There is no option for deleting in the background list from what I see. Only those that came with the computer. I did something that now automatically dumps my photos in the listing. Any ideas?

That's a bit odd. There is usually the opportunity to add your own "backgrounds" and with it usually goes the option of removing them. Maybe the knob has dropped off.
