Hi,

My laptop ( Compaq V4000 - Running XP Home) keeps on typing xxxxxxx.......... continuously, I was told that the following things could be the problem:

1. The Keyboard is Faulty

2. The registry could be corrupt

I bought and fitted a new keyboard but I still get the same problem, It even types xxxxxxx.... with the keyboard disconnected !

I have tried reinstalling windows but cant get enter my Serial as it types X before I can press anything, I really havent a clue what to do so any help would be most appreciated.

Hi There, Welcome.

Try getting into "Safe Mode" (Pressing F8 as it starts to boot.) and see if you can get to the root of the problem from there.

If you are still getting nowhere, dont waste too much more time.

Either try to do a **Windows XP Repair Install**

Or...................

Download an HDD manufacturers install / diagnostic disk, burn to CD, place in your optical drive.

Boot from the newly burnt disk, format the laptop hard disk and reload Windows.

Have you replaced the keyboard or just connected another one via one of the external ports?

If the latter then the original keyboard may well be still having an influence on the behaviour of the machine, especially in a fault condition.
