It was a very pedestrian affair, but it was good fun to set up a type of fractal and then feed in some random numbers and walk way and leave it for a couple of hours. There were all sorts on things on the screen when one returned....providing the numbere fed in were not too silly.There is something about the eerie pointless repetetiveness that makes me wonder if Mandelbrot was related to our current Prince of Darkness. I think I got a 3 1/2" floppy disc from somewhere with some basic formulae on it. I seem to remember there were two types, Mandelbrot and Julia.I must have a look to see if I can find something that will run on Ubuntu.
