Jawbreaker59
I have to multiple failed attempts in installing XP as my new OS on my Vista HP Laptop. I put the XP OS disk in my machine and restart it. There is no progress on the screen and it stays black with a white underscore in the top left hand corner. I have adjusted my bootup where CD-Roms are the top priority upon startup. You can feel the computer reading the disk but it is doing nothing with it. It is almost as if Vista is being attacked and refuses to lose. If anyone has any advice or tips please post them because everything I have done thus far has been stagnant. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
First question: do you want to install XP beside Vista, or over Vista? And: did you make sure that the install CD is readable and bootable?
Jawbreaker59
I'm installing XP over vista, and yes the disk is bootable and readable.
-pops-
Don't know how it is with XP/Vista combinations but, with XP and earlier Windows versions it was essential to install XP first and then the other operating system(s).
