"Internet Explorer has Stopped Working" and "Microsoft Off

Recommended Posts

I'm running Windows 7 with IE8.

I don't use IE much but recently noticed that it will no longer work. I start it up and it immediately crashes and gives the above error. I can start it with add-ons disabled and it will stay open for about 10 seconds and then give the error, or immediately if I try to go to a website. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still get the same answer.

I also just noticed that the Help viewer in Microsoft office gives me the above error if I click on it, immediately. I have Office 2010 beta installed and 2007. It will give the error in both versions. I have tried restoring it to an earlier point but still have the same problems.

Any help in solving this would be greatly appreciated!

Try to get more information on the error from the Event Viewer, especially which component of Internet Explorer has crashed.

I've never used Event Viewer before, so let me know if I'm not giving you the right info. I pasted the Error and Information.

I rather think that Pat meant for you to analyse the findings, rather than him "Spoon Feeding" you.

Sort of - You broke it, - you fix it sort of scenario.

Expect all manner of problems when running beta software. Nuff said. ;)

If I knew what was wrong I would fix it myself. But I'm not really a computer guy, so I was hoping y'all could offer some help.

It isn't just with Office 2010 beta. That has worked perfectly for months. Its only recently, last week, that IE8 started crashing and Microsoft office help viewer as well.

I had a lot of problems with IE stopping working, and found that it was one particular application at fault. Never had any problems since uninstalling it. Try uninstalling add ons one at a time.

I think he has already tried that andsome.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still get the same answer.

And would imagine that he has problems even without Add-ons.

My point with beta software is, that even though it may run for months, it still has the ability to cause conflicts with other software. For this very reason it is at beta stage, awaiting feedback from users.

At times it can be a struggle to analyse such an Event Viewer Log even if the computer is physically "In front of you."

Without anything to physically fiddle around with, we can only go on "Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll" that the log tells us.

Google for the fault as we all would, and try to find out why it is happening.

(Could it indeed be a delayed conflict with beta software in certain situations ?)

A lot of these type diagnostics/repairs rely on trial and error as much as technical knowledge.

John.
