Hackers target Windows XP support system

Recommended Posts

Ruddy amazing. A Google engineer finds the loophole, and instead of keeping his mouth shut until a fix can be found, he publishes his findings ?????

All the criminals jump on the bandwagon and start to hack into peoples computers with a hack that is described as a "nightmare to deal with".

It's a bit like the T.V. programs that explain in great detail how criminologists, and forensics work. Nothing like giving the crims a head start. B)

"Initially, said Microsoft, it only saw "innocuous" attacks by researchers attempting to replicate what Mr Ormandy had found".

"Real exploits turned up on 15 June and these have been enthusiastically adopted by hi-tech criminals".

The only way this could have happened is if someone leaked the information. Good to know stuff like National Security is in the hands of consummate professionals then.

A lot of these stories just dont sound right somehow.

Is the Google Engineer "Travis Ormandy" going to be pulled over the coals for this I wonder ?

I rather think not.

Someone (Russia, China) busted the Microsoft weak security once again and rather than red faces all around, - "We'll just say a vulnerability has been discovered, and some ba..... leaked it" - "That'll keep everyone happy for a while".

Someone there at Microsoft would make a good fiction scriptwriter for the T.V Series "Spooks".

John.
