mmmmmmkaeeeee Posted July 2, 2010 Report Share Posted July 2, 2010 Hey guys,This is my first post here and I'm not very tech oriented so please forgive me if I'm not clear and I'll try to clarify in my following posts.I recently upgraded my machine from these specs:- Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro SLI Motherboard - AMD Athlon 64 3800+- Corsair XMS 3200 2 GB- eVGA GeForce 7600 GT 256MB- Seagate Barracuda 250 GB 7200.10 Hard DriveThis machine had a copy of Windows XP Professional installed on it. I updated to SP 3 a couple of months ago.Then I decided to upgrade my computer and do a completely different build:- eVGA P55 FTW Motherboard- Intel i5-750 2.66 GHz- Corsair XMS3 4GB PC10666- eVGA Geforce 9800 GTX+After installing all these components, I connected my hard drive and proceeded to launch WIndows XP. Of course with all the hardware that I changed, Windows asked for me to activate it, which I did do. Eventually, after many restarts to install my new drivers for the motherboard and video card, I'm running XP. However, performance is down as I'm sure there are conflicting drivers from my old system that haven't been removed.Here's my question: Will a clean install of Windows 7 Professional remove all the current drivers so I can reinstall all the drivers for my new system? Or will it just use the drivers currently on it, thus resulting in a continual performance issue with conflicting drivers? Alan2273 Posted July 2, 2010 Report Share Posted July 2, 2010 Yes doing an install of Windows 7 pro will remove any drivers.But you need to do a full format with the W7 disk and then install.You will probably find that you do not need to install any motherboard drivers, as W7 will install them automatically, and any missing drivers in device manager can be got through the automated Windows search.Nice spec for you new build.
