StephenEsq Posted July 7, 2010 Report Share Posted July 7, 2010 Today, my external hard drive by Verbatim crashed. The computer recognizes the drive, but wants to RE-"format" the drive. This will in effect cause me to lose the data on the drive.All the data recovery software that I have attempted to use has the same problem. Mainly, the software always wants me to RE-"format" the external hard drive in order to recognize the external hard drive.The power on the hard drive is "LIT" so I believe that it still functions.Is it safe to "Format" the external hard drive, then recover the data?Is there an alternative? Otherwise you could wait a little while and someone else might have some advice about your EHD.Good luck! :)Let us know if it is successful. andsome Posted July 8, 2010 Report Share Posted July 8, 2010 I cannot help with the problem, but wonder how you have been disconnecting the drive. Do you simply switch it off or do you click on its small icon bottom tight hand corner and as ask permission to disconnect. But this time ( in the month of April ) when my OS windows XP crashed , I used another data recovery software for windows data recovery [link removed].
