problem when creating a volume in Windows Vista (Home Basic)

in my Lenovo laptop have 120 GB hard disk. when i purchased the system it have windows recovery feature of Windows Vista (Home Basic). then i have created another drive so recovery feature have been lost. this was the think of previous year.

now before one months, i changed drive size and deleted a partition. then a MBR issue was came in my system. and DVD writter are not working.

today, i have installed Windows Vista (Home Basic) using a bootable pendrive.

now DVD writter read some CD's and some CD's show blank which have data. it does not read any DVD.

in Disk Management, it show a drive of 29 GB (show as a Free space in green color) and a size of 11 GB (which may be size of windows recovery feature that has been lost and show with blue color).

when i right click on the free space (that is size of 29 GB) to create a new volume, at the end, it give error:

there is not enough space avaliable on the disk(s) to complete this operation.

i also tried with 28 GB space on this drive but it give same error.

when i right to a volume which have size of 11 GB, following option are enabled. Changed drive letter and path, Format, Delete volume, properties and help. disabled option is: open, explore, Mark partition as active, extend volume, shrink volume.

when i click to format: it show a error- An unexpected error has occured. Check the system Event log for more information on the error. Close the disk management console, then start the disk management or start the computer.

i also tried to create a new volume during windows installation but it give error when i create volume after formatting. i have only format the entire disk. perhaps it would be better option if during installation, i have delete all the volumes and then creates all the volumes with equal sizes of 60 GB to all three volumes. but i was sacred if all the drive deletes and no one be create. beacuse a simple volume is not create during installation, i tried to create a new volume during installation.

presently in My Computer, it show two drive C and D, i want to create one another drive.

now my query is how use the space of 29 GB and 11 GB to create a new volume.

also suggest about DVD writter.

please help.

Hi, and welcome.

I have read through your post several times now, and have come to the conclusion that all of your current problems are "Self Inflicted". This in itself is perhaps not a bad thing, because we all learn a lot by making mistakes and correcting them.

However. As you started by wiping out a perfectly good recovery partition, went on to damage the MBR, and now have unusable optical drives, it may be a good time to call a halt to your dabbling, and either find a computer savvy friend who can help you. (Two heads are always better than one.) Or take your laptop to a professional person for repair.

It should be stated that when you get to a stage where it says "Check the system Event log for more information on the error." - That is exactly what you should have done.

If you did indeed do that, and could not understand the explanation, it was a time to stop and re-think about the level of computer education required to carry on.

I seem to think that perhaps any advice given to you would probably lead to a downward spiral in actually fixing your computer if you continue to do it yourself.

Anyone else here can come up with any suggestions for Kumarn ?

MANEMAN's advice might not be off the mark.If it's time for professional assistence....Otherwise a lot of research may be in order.

The only thing that I can add to this is that you may want to consider a complete cleaning and re-formatting of HD in anticipation of a clean-install of your OS.
