bloads Posted July 28, 2010 Report Share Posted July 28, 2010 When I got win7, i bought the 32/64-bit combo upgrade-from-XP. My roomate did the same thing, and I remember hearing him complain when he went to reformat his harddrive with win7 again. He said his windows key wasn't coming up as valid unless he remormatted w/XP, then installed his win7 again over the XP. I wanted to change my 32-bit win7 to 64-bit (i have both CDs), will i have to reformat, install my old XP, then do the reformat upgrade to win7? -pops- Posted July 28, 2010 Report Share Posted July 28, 2010 Win 7 choice of 32 or 64 bit is a one off. Once you have used the Product Key for one version, you can't (technically) use it for another. Your room-mate may have found an over-ride but, I'm not sure this is strictly according to the rules.
