Outlook issue after transfer

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody...I desperately need help...

I have just got a new machine and have been working or transferring some of the important stuff onto the new machine. One of the most important things are my outlook settings...

After digging a bit, I found this small piece of software called BackRex Outlook backup and managed to get all the account and rules etc. onto my new machine...

But now, I cannot send emails from outlook...when I do the Tools/Accounts/Change accounts and perform a test of the settings it works like a charm, but now I cannot send emails. Neither from the old, nor from the new machine.

I receive messages without any problems.

Please help...

Don't know where exactly I got this, yet I was going to do some "fiddlin'" at one point and happened to copy this.Found it in an old archive.

Maybe it will help....

To migrate settings, account info etc use the Save My settings Wizard, found

in Start-All Programs-Microsoft Office-Microsoft Office Tools.

To move data do the following:

On Old Computer:

Close Outlook.

Search for, and copy the pst file. Default name and location are:

C:\Documents and Settings\{Your User Name here}\Local Settings\Application

Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst. (You may have to enable Hidden and

System files in your search)

On the New computer:

Copy the pst file to your HDD. Do NOT overwrite any existing file. Remove

any read-only attribute. (Right-Click-Properties).

Open Outlook.

Do File-Open-Outlook Data File and navigate to where you copied the file.

You then have two alternatives.

1. Drag and drop the data from the old file to the new

or,

2. If you have a large amount of data then you can set the old file as the

Default Delivery location and Outlook will just carry on using that file.

(Control Panel-Mail-Data File)

Get this under control?

I'm wondering because I don't run Outlook.I have seen several posts on the issue though.

I didn't get the message, that's what was strange...

I did resolve the issue simply by uninstalling outlook on the new machine, setting up the accounts again instead of moving them from the old machine. I too like to figure things out but my experience with outlook was that I rarely do in the end so I decided to go "brute force on outlook"

I really am not a fan of Outlook, but once it is up and running I prefer it to Thunderbird. It's just that all the time I have the impression of fragility, i am afraid to change anything once I get it to work since I always f... something up an end up working for a day or two on getting it to work again...

When I get frustrated with outlook, I just think of Word and I am suddenly relieved to work with outlook and not figuring out how to align tables and paragraphs in Word...

thanks to all the good people on the forum ;)

btw. does anybody know how I can exclude Outlook files from the search results in Win 7. When I try to search a file, almost often I find that outlook messages pop up in the results. I really don't want that, since I don't want other people that occasional use my computer getting access to my outlook without turning it on.

best

In the search field from the 'Start Button', type in 'indexing options'.

You can then access the Options to 'uncheck' Outlook. ;)

thanks maneman B)

You are very welcome good sir.

(as usual I've fallen behind a few posts here it seems. :( )

Pleased to see that you are receiving help.

I would rather pull back out of a situation I know nothing about than give wrong information.

Good luck with your current problem.

John.
